Bowland Traditional Crumbly Lancashire Lancashire Cheese was first created by farm workers on the Fylde Coast who had little milk to spare each day so as a result developed a technique for making a large cheese out of more than one day's milking. Known as Creamy Lancashire it can be enjoyed, both as a young mild cheese or with a more mature bite. Creamy Lancashire is the perfect cheese for a Ploughman's Lunch and is one of the best cheeses for melting, some arguing it was the original toasted cheese. CRUMBLY LANCASHIRE is a very different cheese altogether and is a more recent phenomenon. Made from only a single curd, the cheese is softer, tangy and sharp flavoured which is crumbly when young but which becomes creamier and mellow as it ages.
