After 10 years winemaking in South Africa and the recognition of the regions superior potential for producing world-class wines, Boutinot Ltd purchased the 122hectare Waterkloof estate in December 2004 following a 4-year search for the perfect terroir. The Waterkloof vineyards are situated just 3km from the ocean in South Africa’s finest cool climate growing area. Their location on the Schaapenberg Mountain in Somerset West, benefits from the moderating effects of coastal breezes, which blow in off the cool Atlantic currents flowing through False Bay. The ‘Waterkloof’ estate retains the name of the original farm positioned on the site, with the word ‘kloof’ meaning valley. The ‘Peacock Ridge’ range draws its name from the wild peacocks that roam the ridge dividing the estate.
